The idea of making films for architecture came to Sufian Ararah and Rokas Jankus, the founders of Urban Noise, almost by accident. While working together on a project, we found ourselves at the intersection of two distinct elements: architecture and cinematography—interviews and photography.
Both located in Berlin, we started comparing our past work and talking to architects from all over the world. Through these conversations, we realized that film is a medium that hasn’t yet been fully discovered or elaborated upon in the architectural world. Even though a Berlin architecture office puts months of hard labor into their plans and structures, that story often remains untold.
Documenting the “Hard Labor” of Human Design
A finished building is a feat of human design. It represents the collective effort of multiple partners, various teams, and the meticulous steps taken by architecture offices in Berlin to create something functional and beautiful. These are spaces where people live, work, and experience every day of their lives.
We believe that all of this labor deserves to be documented. It shouldn’t just be seen from the perspective of the people who live there, but also from the perspective of the people who made the place. We want to capture:
- The “Why”: The thoughts and philosophy behind the project.
- The Methodology: The specific direction and concepts used to execute the design.
- The People: The faces and voices of the architects who brought the vision to life.
Bringing Buildings to Life Through Architecture Films
We truly believe that architecture films can bring a building to life. This happens through the creators telling their story—explaining what they wanted to achieve and why they chose one path over another.
A lot of people don’t really perceive the subtleties that architects put into their work. Our goal with film production in Berlin is to highlight these layers. Architecture doesn’t stop at building design; it decides how the city is planned. In our films, we dive into:
- Urban Planning & Design: The concept, longevity, and creativity of the city’s layout.
- Sustainability: The thought that goes into building materials and making a structure weather-resistant or time-resistant.
- Technical Excellence: Highlighting “invisible” successes like efficient airflow and material durability.
Authenticity: More Than Just “Video”
We have a strong passion for these designs and for the NGOs working on sustainable buildings for the future. When we started Urban Noise, we decided we wanted to create something truly good. For us, the most important element is authenticity.
What we produce isn’t just another video to scroll past online. It is a berlin Documentary—a short film that you can invite people to watch together. It is an experience that allows your future clients and collaborators to understand the sheer amount of effort you put into a production.
Through these documentary films, viewers can see your commitment to perfectionism and the execution of a design. It’s about making the world see the heart behind the work of a Berlin architecture office.
